After the Battle of Culloden, many of the Highland chiefs who were forced to leave Scotland found congenial surroundings at the Court of Louis XV. Although they continued to wear their distinctive national costume, it was only natural that this should be influenced by the elaborate style of the French Court. In the figure of an outlawed chief, shown here, the French influence is very noticeable.

Clan Robertson is often referred to as Clan Donnachie, having been founded by Duncan, eldest son of Malcolm III. From a later chief, Robert, who lived in the reign of James I of Scotland, the clan became known as Robertson. The clan territory was Struan in Perthshire, the chief being known as Struan Robertson.
