MacGillivrayMacGILLIVRAY

The neat arrangement of the filleadh mór or belted-plaid is well illustrated in this view from behind. The light-coloured jacket is dyed with native crotal. The hose are not knitted, but cut from tartan web and sewn.

The MacGillivrays were one of the oldest branches of the Clan Chattan Confederation, and took a prominent part in the Jacobite Risings Of 1715 and 1745. At Culloden, a stone stills tands on the battle field, with the inscription, 'Well of the dead where the Chief of the MacGillivrays fell'.
