GrantGRANT OF GLENMORISTON

At the end of the eighteenth century, it was fashionable for young men to wear their hair clubbed, as is shown in the case of this figure of Grant of Glemnoriston. In his right hand, he is holding a stick used in playing the Highland game variously called shinty, shinny or bandy-ball, which was the forerunner of the modem game of hockey.

The ancient home of the Grants was Strathspey, from which the clan took their famous war cry, 'Stand fast, Craigellachie'.
