FORBES

Here is seen to advantage the full Court dress of a Highland chief immediately prior to the 1745 rising. The ruffled sleeves, the shoe buckles and the wig show the strong French influence which for centuries dominated the highland aristocracy. The present chief of Clan Forbes, of which there are many cadets, is the twenty-second Lord Forbes, Premier Baron of Scotland. Castle Forbes and most of the clan lands are still in the possession of the chief, whose son and heir is, in accordance with Highland custom, known as The Master of Forbes.
